the long way

As a kid I was always getting lost around the house. My mother never took long to find me: I was in the yard, under an umbrella, surrounded by my brother's action figures, living out plots I made up. Later, in Granada, the place was a shed that became the door to somewhere else every day. I never experienced it as escaping. I liked living other lives, and dragging other people into the game.

At school that turned into impersonations. At fifteen I made Carlos wet himself doing our Biology teacher on a dating app. At university I passed myself off as an Erasmus student from Lyon for weeks, accent included, and it held. That's where the only thing that still serves me came from: acting isn't pretending, it's building a truth and getting the person opposite you to believe it with you.

It took me years to call this a job. I walked into Work in Progress in 2021 looking like I had it under control and with my legs shaking, did one scene, and the argument was over. Then came the classic route — big school, endless courses, maximum effort — and then taking it apart, with Darío Facal on stage and Paz Moral on camera. What I took from both is the same thing: acting is being, with nothing held back.

Now I train the way an athlete trains: every day, not the week before the audition. I've done comedy with Laura Caballero on Alpha Males and with Mario Montero on La que se avecina, a football club chairman in El beso with David Cromo, a short film with Sara Sálamo and another with Facal himself. I show up on set to be an exact part of the machinery, not a problem to solve. I come from comedy and that's where I've been seen most, but what really interests me sits a little lower down, at the moment the character's guard drops. When nobody calls me for that, I write it and shoot it myself.
